RUMOR: Adrian Gonzalez to Sox for Konerko and Prospects | Print |  E-mail

As first reported on SoxNet.net, and later discussed on The Score 670, the White Sox, Padres, and Angels are in "initial" trade talks involving a deal which would send Paul Konerko to the Angels, Sox prospects to the Padres, and Adrian Gonzalez to the Sox.

Before I need to put on new underpants, let's disclose that this is indeed just in the rumor stage, and as we all know, if you hear it, odds are Kenny won't do it.A-Gon

But that being said, this would be fantastic for the Sox looking towards 2010.  Gonzalez is a left-handed power hitting machine who bombed 40 HR's out of Petco Park of all places last year.  He is 27 years old and his contract owes him $4.75 million this year with a club option for $5.5 next season.  Konerko on the other hand is owed $12 million for the upcoming season.

The key to this deal would be the future though.  Gonzalez for Konerko straight up is awesome, but how does Konerko, Jordan Danks, and Viciedo for Gonzalez sound?  Or what about Konerko, Hudson, and Flowers?  I'm not sure it looks so good at that point.

Obviously the Padres are interested in what is in the Sox farm system.  They already have 4 of our youngsters from the Peavy deal, and they surely see talent in Danks, Viciedo, Hudson, and Flowers.  So this deal may not be as far-fetched as it did when we first began examining it.

But all in all, I don't think now is a time to be too excited about something like this actually coming to fruition, but it's a fun thing to think about on November 16th.  As if we weren't already excited about the 2010 White Sox, throw another ex-Padre in the mix, and the Sox half of this blog may spontaneously combust.

I'd be reluctant to give up Danks, Flowers, or Hudson, but AGon is a great player, who would be a great fit for the Sox.

They get Konerko for some low/mid level prospects. It's not the worst deal for them as they would certainly upgrade.

All signs point to this deal being nothing though.
